Recent Releases in Health Disparities | Poll Indicates That Majority of U.S. Residents Support Expanding SCHIP to Documented Immigrant Children
[Dec 23, 2008]

SCHIP poll (.pdf), First Focus: The poll, conducted by Lake Research Partners, found that by a margin of 79% to 15%, a majority of U.S. residents support expanding SCHIP to cover documented immigrant children. Under current law, documented immigrant children must wait five years before they can become eligible for the program. The national survey was conducted on the eve of the November presidential election and included responses from 1,200 individuals. The poll also found that by a margin of 82% to 10%, a majority of U.S. residents support renewing SCHIP. About 49% of respondents identified themselves as Democrats, 39% as Republicans and 11% as independents (First Focus release, 12/18).
